Out of all the freelance jobs for students at Brighton University, Penny Gray is one of two students doing Menswear. I do not have as much experience in Menswear as Womenswear, however I still felt confident that I could construct great garments from her designs.
Penny studied weave and had chosen to use mohair and a loose check as her final fabrics, again I worked from sketches and images provided to develop the patterns, toiling as I went along.
The oversized Parka inspired coat is a combination of mohair in horizontal stripes and orange ripstop nylon. It has large slouchy pockets, an oversized hood and drawstring hem. The shirt is a woven check with loose thread squares that have been cut in order for them to fray slightly.
Both garments have a modern and slouchy feel about them and both use traditional shapes to showcase unusual but detailed fabrics.
